What is an expression number?

Your expression number, also widely known as your destiny number, is calculated from the letters of your full birth name. In Pythagorean numerology, every letter carries a numerical value (A=1, B=2, C=3, and so on through I=9, then J=1 again). Add them all up, reduce to a single digit, and you get a number that describes the talents you arrived with and the path your name vibration naturally supports.

While your life path number comes from your birth date and represents your mission, your expression number represents your toolkit. It is the gift you brought into this life to fulfill that mission. These two are the most important numbers in Pythagorean numerology and they work as a pair. Your life path (from your birth date) describes the mission you signed up for. Your expression (from your birth name) describes the talents and abilities you brought to fulfill that mission.

When life path and expression are in harmony, life flows: you have both the "why" and the "how." When they clash, you can feel an inner tension: you know what you should do but the tools feel wrong. The good news is that friction is not failure. It is an invitation to develop aspects of yourself your natural talents did not cover.
